Five for Friday May 27, 2016

Thank you, Doodle Bugs Teaching for yet another Five for Friday!
Saying goodbye to my precious 1st graders was difficult. It is always difficult, but this year stands out more than others. Maybe because I'm getting closer and closer to retirement, but oh, I will miss those little cherubs.
This awesome lady (with the look of surprise on her face) will be missed terribly. Our teammate, Becky is moving back to Kansas. Her humor, joy for teaching and her friendship will be missed.
Oh my gosh, we laughed so hard when after a pretty rough day, she just collapsed on this table. We've all been there, Becky. Thanks for the laughs, love and support! ♥

It always amazes me when my former students actually grow up! I know that sounds silly. Of course they grow up! But when they blossom into phenomenal young people who are kind, compassionate and who I know will make the world a better place, that's when I get all teary-eyed and sappy.
Congratulations on graduating, Breanna! (so glad she had her heels off for this picture, LOL)
What to take home... what did I forget this summer? Between tutoring my sweet nephew, preparing for next year, and creating new products, I'm sure I've forgotten something. Oh well, the custodians will miss me and want to see me again soon anyway (not).
Bathrooms are finished! Finally! So excited!

Five for Friday May 20, 2016

Thanks, Doodle Bugs Teaching for another great Five for Friday!

We are winding down the year and I'm cleaning out my file cabinets and my boxes of leftover activity sheets. One of first graders' favorite things is to have a summer packet made to order!
I just set out piles of left over papers from the year and years past and let them take what they wanted.
They took it all! Then I clipped their summer packets together and they made a cover.
I was able to clean out tons of papers and hopefully they will practice some skills over the summer!
A win-win!

My first graders love Ready Freddy books and they will LOVE their end of the year gift! All I have to do is write a message to each student inside each book.♥
Field Day was today, and what a great day it was! Beautiful weather and great kids who were cheering for each other. Made my heart proud!

If you want a few "awww's" or laughs, have your students write about what they think you should do this summer. They have some great ideas!
Like a cruise!
20,031 kittens would be a lot... And me, hunting? Maybe not. LOL
I just smiled with this one. :)
 And this one's my favorite!

I love these ladies! Every May, our book club meets just to plan our book lists for the following year. Many of our members are retired teachers, whom I adore and miss, so I look forward to seeing them every month! Here are just a few of our members. ♥

Let me know what your thoughts. I'd love to hear from you!

Five for Friday May 13, 2016

Thanks, Doodle Bugs Teaching for another great Five for Friday!

So last week we finished our Houghton Mifflin Curriculum for the year.
Now comes the real fun!
Our 2 hour block of reading is filled with fun ways to apply our amazing reading skills.

First up... Reader's Theater!
Oh my gosh, did they have fun!
First, I read the books that the Reader's Theaters were adopted from.
Then I highlighted the parts on each script and distributed to students.
They practiced.
 And practiced a little more...
And performed! What joy!
Choose from these Reader's Theaters:

Check out all 5 Reader's Theater Scripts HERE!
Another way my students applied their reading skills this week was a solid 45 minutes of reading BIG Books!
Those BIG Books that were off limits all year long were now available for everyone to lie down on the carpet and READ! OMG!
I heard, "Really??"
"NO WAY!"
They could barely stand it.
And this is why I make it so special and wait for the end of the year...
